MPG

sat down and calculated her MPG over the past few months.

Interesting - in General they vary from 17.7 to 28 mpg. Some of the low ones are suspect but indicate hard work on crap fuel or evaporation..

Since Iǘe owned ḧer¨ (or is it a him) weve acheived 23- 27 MPG. I must admit Iḿ tempted to take her to Canberra just to see the MPG she gets.

We use 98 octaine if available. We try to never use less than 95 octaine

Another 145s

2013 05 09 13 48 31

The excuse to buy this vehicle was it was tasmanian registered and I needed a tasmanian registered car so I did not get charges "mainlander" prices when I went to buy things.

Actually it was just a beautiful, well preserved original car with complete documentation owned by a passionate owner who wanted to see it handed on to the next trustee.  Problem is my other early 145s had to go as we just have too many cars. I will write a blog on the other car later. But it is already spoken for...

This car is a 1970 build delivers through the overseas buyer program at Gothenburg in Feb 1971. Through the service booklet you can see it travel round europe england and Ireland. It arrived back in  Australia in June 1972 for its first Australian service.

It migrated to Tasmania via a new owner and by 1996 had covered 132,000 miles only. Much loved and used for longer trips I am told.

Sports wheel and Tachometer.

For its age the interior is stunningly immaculate.

The seat has sagged and been repaired.  The dash is untracked.. :-)

A crag davis thermal fan, Spotlights and a Fiam air horn are also fitted.

2013 05 09 13 50 33

As is the warm air intake off the exhaust manifold.

Drives wonderfully. Does need some new bushes but thats really minor as I have a set in the stash.

I will fit a 123 ignition system.. but have yet to decide when that will happen.

It sits happily on 65-70 but I tend to sit at about 60.

One of the interesting things about the car is the cigarette lighter is set up as a ignition lock out - embarrassing when you forget.

i23ignition fitment

Decided to fit a contactless electronic ignition.

Thought about hall effect points replacment but still have concerns over the worn original parts so eventially decided to gamble and go fr a 123ignitino system.
Yes see http://www.123ignition.nl/
I got it thru the Oz agent  see
http://www.123ignition.com.au/ $561 delivered to me at a friends in Adelaide.

Over here for a bit and after the 1200km trip the timing had slipped again - just a bit but...
So I thought bugger it after 520000km the distributor is most probable a bit worn in areas I can get to - How much is a rebuild - how much is this.
If it woeks I'll fit one to my 164e - they produce one with takeoffs for fuel injection too. Also produce a tunable one with a usb imput :-).
So I'll keep you informed.
Will be carrying a spare normal distributer in the boot for a while. :-) till I get confidence in the system

Another run to Adelaide

Figures below are for Esperances' performance.

Nice trip in 14 hours Started in freezing fog - yes the SU's did suffer icing problems. But so did everything at -3 with no preheater.

After that the trip was uneventful - still think I got some points degradation - as it is not running quite as I would have hopped now - just a bit sluggish - still sat on 120 kph thru the hills. twas nice.

a wonderful older car.

a great Volvo. - Can't wait to do the same trip in the 164.

145s ramblings

As I wait for a time to do the trip back south with the 145s Ive been fiddling and fixing. First the manifold as in the previous post. Sti...
