Alternator Dies

510000 km and the alternator dies -
Replaced it from the stock in the shed - I think it was a 164 item as the rear was a bit different.
She's running well otherwise - needs the points adjusting - and or replacing with an electronic trigger.
will discuss that process in detail later.

Trip to Adelaide

Left Queanbeyan 8 am

Trying to cruise at 100kph.

Esperanza wanted to go at 92 0r 102kph. Bugger.

110 to 120 was used to vary the engine and harass 4*4's or gray nomads.

Temp sat just below the N and hardly varied.

Oils lost it's initial vapors from city running then stabilized at Max for the full trip.

We stopped overnight in a motel in Balrenald and had tea at the ex services club Yummm!

Arrived Balrenald 4.45pm -8 hours 45 minutes 719 km

Left 8.00 am

This day was a bit more interesting as we developed a “miss” - Bugger

The points were closing.

Re-adjusted by hand in Tailam Bend.

Worked OK but not as well as I wanted. Cruised into Adelaide with the idel a bit high and the occasional ping under hard acceleration.

Needs a good tune up and a new set of points. May also need a new distributor cap and rotor.

Arrived Adelaide 1.45pm 5 hours 45minutes later 572 km

Nice trip – quite relaxing and proof you do not need to always be in the latest zot mobile plus.

Total-1291 km later

road trip to Adelaide

1400 Km in a 1974 car. Twill be fun so long as I can re-adjust my mind.
Deviding it into two stages at present.Qbyn to Hay 680km and hay to Adeaide 780 Km.
Plan to sit on 95-100 kph. 4000rpm at the current ratios. definately need a 5 spped box or an overdrive - but most Oz imports were of this ratio and with no tacho.
Car sounds good - romoved the last clatter of the hand brake cable aginst the exhaust - so we'll see what happens. photo's and report after.

One more gone!!

The white-one has gone!
To a home where it will receive a full mechanical implant from a 164 rally car body - we hope.
Well maybe that makes it two white ones.
Leaves me with a white manual 164e. and the 164TE.
All I need is a home for the TE and my projects are starting to become managable.
More on th 164e as it developes.

Buggered the bumper - we have several spar under the shed but -- the hy-un-die was squashed.

Engine finished

Nice New engine.

Took some time and eventually I had to get a commercial company to finish the project.

Time poor.

Glad I did.

Ian Stuart from Berco did a wondrous job.

Alloy intake manifold and rocker cover.
Rocker from IPD.
New cam designed for torque. Injected engine exhaust manifold.
As it was an auto car the throttle linkages needed some fiddling. Ditto the vacuum and other hoses.
Drives well but now of course we can hear the other things that need doing. Ie suspension.
Agh well.
